SUBTITLER, SHIFTS (UK)

As the business continues to grow, we are seeking experienced Subtitlers to join us on a shift basis at our flagship facility in Soho, London. The ideal candidates will have professional experience in subtitling for Theatrical, Broadcast or VOD. The work you do here will directly impact the viewer experience, whether it be for localization subtitles or captions for the hard of hearing, so we’re looking for someone with a great eye for detail, a focus on quality and a passion for language. Whether your background is in translation subtitling, captioning, template creation or technical QC, this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an expanding in-house team.

 

KEY RESPONSIBITLIES

As a Subtitler, you will be responsible for the end-to-end file handling of subtitles in various languages. This will include preliminary error checks, full technical QC and final post-processing. Projects usually involve multiple languages and versions, shared among the team, so there is a lot of collaboration, even while you focus on your own particular tasks. To succeed at EIKON, candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, flexible but above all professional with a great determination to succeed. They'll be comfortable working to tight deadlines, manage pressure well and have extremely high standards of quality. It is a fast-paced industry, where clients’ needs are constantly changing, so it’s important to be adaptable and comfortable making informed decisions in ambiguous situations. The Subtitling team works closely with other departments at EIKON and opportunities will arise to be involved in projects which go beyond the normal scope of subtitling. We’re constantly developing new techniques and workflows, so are looking for people with the desire and ability to learn new software, concepts, and processes, both currently and going forward. MAIN DUTIES

Creating and handling subtitle language projects for Theatrical, OTT & VOD platforms

• Managing incoming subtitle files for localization and for the hard of hearing, from a variety of sources

• Conforming and importing files and scripts

• Reviewing subtitle files in various languages against video

• Quality control, editing and error reporting

• Checking updated video versions and tracking required changes

• Exporting proofs, simulations and final files for delivery internally and externally

• Problem solving language-related issues

• Identifying improvements to master projects and communicating suggested changes

• Liaising and collaborating with internal departments

• Guiding junior staff members on subtitling best practices

 

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

 Excellent knowledge of the factors that affect subtitle quality and viewer experience 

 Experience in technical QC of subtitle files

 Superlative attention to detail and ability to maintain focus

 Methodical and precise in cross referencing to multiple specifications

 An ability to handle high-pressure situations and sensitive information

 A positive and mature attitude to hard work

 A voracious appetite to learn

 Patience and flexibility

 Organised and confident to work independently

 An affinity for picking up new processes and software

 A passion for film, TV and post-production

 Familiarity with languages other than English

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• BA Hons Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline

• 2 years professional experience in a similar role

• Excellent command of the English language

• Strong IT literacy

 

This is a full-time, in-house position operating on a split shift basis (including weekends).
